Bhubaneswar, Jan. 17 -- After drawing a lot of flak over its investigation as the accused in Pipili gang rape and murder case were acquitted, the Odisha Crime Branch challenged the lower court verdict in Orissa High Court today.

There was widespread public outrage after the Bhubaneswar Additional District Judge acquitted prime accused Prashant Pradhan and his brother Sukant on December 24, 2018 due to lack of evidence against them. Soon after the verdict, questions were raised over the competency of the Crime Branch to investigate and build a strong case against the accused in such a sensitive case.
