Baripada, Jan. 18 -- A forest guard of Baripada forest division was suspended today for not reporting the death of an elephant calf to higher authorities. According to sources, the Baripada Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) suspended guard Anita Singh for dereliction of duty today.

The elephant calf had died on January 13 and the DFO was reportedly not informed about the incident and the carcass was also buried.

Meanwhile, the Forest department has started an investigation into the actual cause of death of the elephant calf.
