Sri Lanka, Jan. 16 -- The ministry of Provincial Council and Local Government states that it has issued instructions to the Department of Legal Draftsman to prepare a new draft bill with regard to holding the provincial council election under the old system.

The new draft bill should be forwarded within two weeks.

Subject Ministry secretary, Kamal Padmasiri told our news team that the election should be held under the new Act passed in 2017.

However, the proposed draft bill will be forwarded as an amendment to the previous Act of 2017.

Accordingly, the Provincial Council election Act of 1988 will be re-enacted and the election will be held under the old system.
