Cabinet approval has been sought to declare the 269-hectare-landmass reclaimed from the sea under the Colombo Port City Project as part of the territory of the Colombo District, Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said yesterday.

The port city project was first launched in 2014 to reclaim a landmass from the sea adjacent to the Colombo Port. Later, the present government which took office in 2015 reviewed the project and re-launched it under new terms and conditions negotiated with the China Harbour Engineering Company.
