Jerusalem, April 19 -- Israeli veteran forward Itay Shechter announced his retirement from football on Thursday at the age of 37.

The forward played for all the leading Israeli clubs, as well as for the then Bundesliga club Kaiserslautern in the 2011-2012 season, followed by a season with Swansea City in the English Premiership, and with the French Ligue 1 team Nantes in 2014.

His major titles include an English League Cup with Swansea, two Israeli League championships, and a state cup with Maccabi Tel Aviv, as well as a championship and two state cups with Hapoel Tel Aviv, and a state cup with Hapoel Beer Sheva.

He played in five Champions League Group Stage matches with Hapoel Tel Aviv in 2010 and scored one goal against Schalke.
