India, March 11 -- The cherry blossom may be Japan's national flower, but Michigan is home to the so-called "Cherry Capital of the World." The state has an estimated 36,000 acres of cherry trees and produces around 75 percent of the country's tart cherries and 20 percent of the sweet ones. That means that not only will you find bushels of cherries at roadside stands across the state, but in the spring, you might be able to catch acres of cherry orchards in full bloom.
