Dhaka, April 19 -- Shib Narayan Das, designer of the first Bangladeshi flag, has died at the age of 78.

He passed away around 9:25am at the ICU of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Dhaka on Friday, reports bdnews24.com.

Das leaves behind a wife and son.

"My father's body has been kept at the BIRDEM mortuary," said his son Arnob Aditya. "His body will be donated here and his cornea will be donated to Sandhani [a voluntary organisation run by medical college students that manages blood and organ donations]. Throughout his life, my father gave all for our country."
