Over 3,000 Bangladeshi detained in Romania for illegal border crossing in 2023
Dhaka, May 8 -- A total of 3,135 Bangladeshi nationals were detained in Romania in 2023 for attempting to illegally cross the border.
Dinsa Andrei Alexandru, Arad County spokesperson of the Romanian Border Police, said this on Monday (May 6), according to local media.
He further informed that more than 7,400 migrants from different countries were detained by the Border Police on charges of irregular border crossing from Romania.
Most of them were trying to enter Hungary and go to Western European countries, the spokesperson added.
Migrants usually try to escape Romania, which is partially within Schengen, Europe's visa-free travel zone, by squeezing into cargo lorries, trucks or private cars.
