Dhaka, May 8 -- Bangladeshi nationals account for over one-fifth of the people crossing the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe.

Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Amy E Pope disclosed the information while talking to newsmen after releasing the World Migration Report-2024 in Dhaka on Tuesday.

According to a Prothom Alo news item, she said twenty-one percent of the people who entered Europe through the Mediterranean Sea in the first four months of this year were Bangladeshis.

Amy E Pope said people from different countries, including Bangladesh, migrated in larger numbers than any time in the past due to climate change and conflict.
