BALANGIR, Feb. 11 -- The grisly murder of a six-month-old boy by his mother in Balangir district took a new turn on Saturday with the woman confessing to the crime before police and attributing her actions to her distress over her husband's extramarital affair.

The accused woman Meena Nag (38) was arrested on Friday from Khaliapali village under the Puintala police limits here after she allegedly killed her infant son by slitting his throat. Family members had rushed the baby to the nearest hospital for treatment and later to the Bhima Bhoi Medical College Hospital, but doctors declared the child dead on arrival.
