Guwahati, April 20 -- A state from the northeast came out on the top among all the 21 states that went to vote for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls on Friday. At 80.40 per cent, Tripura clocked the highest voter turnout among all the states that went to polls on Friday.

Voting took place at 1,686 polling centres in the West Tripura Parliamentary constituency which went to polls on Friday.

According to reports, more than 23,000 voters were still seen standing in queues after the polling hours in the state.
