KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 -- In his Hari Raya Aidilfitri address tonight, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called for Malaysians to be united and forgiving, for the greater good of the country.

The call comes amidst heightened tensions over the "Allah" socks issue and related controversies.

Anwar emphasised the importance on drawing upon previous experience to avoid pitfalls, and to build opportunities for common progress and prosperity.

"In the same context, I would like to stress that this country requires the strength of all parties. Of all regions, of all races, to elevate it to the best and dignified level. We can't sideline or even antagonise any majority or minority groups of any race or religion nor beliefs, for any reason....
