Srinagar, March 29 -- Ten people, primarily non-locals, tragically lost their lives when a taxi (Tavera) carrying passengers from Jammu to Kashmir veered off the road and plunged into a 300-meter deep gorge near Battery Chashma on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

An official said that the incident occurred around midnight amidst heavy rainfall.

Authorities, including senior police officers and rescue teams, swiftly responded to the scene.

So far, ten bodies have been recovered from the gorge, with most believed to be migrant laborers.

Among the identified deceased are the driver, Balwan Singh from Jammu, and a non-local, Vipin Mukhiya from Bihar.
