KATHMANDU, Jan. 21 -- Former vice-chairpersons of the National Planning Commission, Swarnim Wagle and Govinda Raj Pokharel, have expressed their solidarity with Dr Govinda KC, a senior orthopedic surgeon who has been staging his 16th hunger strike for the past two weeks for reforms in the medical sector of Nepal.

Issuing a joint statement, Wagle and Pokharel on Sunday urged the government to form a high-level committee to hold dialogue with KC. "It is a matter of concern to us that the government has not paid attention to Dr KC's hunger strike. Saving Dr KC's life is a matter of urgency for both the state and society," reads the statement.
