New Delhi, Jan. 17 -- Ignoring the huge controversy over supersession of several judges, the Government on Wednesday appointed Delhi High Court judge Sanjiv Khanna to the Supreme Court as recommended by the apex court's collegium.

President Ram Nath Kovind also appointed Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari as a judge of the apex court. With the two appointments, the strength of the top court will rise to 28, with three vacancies.

In December, the Collegium recommended Delhi High Court Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog to be elevates as Supreme Court Judges. However, the recommendation was not sent to Government.
