SRINAGAR, Jan. 16 -- The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an independent organization that advocates for press freedom worldwide, has written an open letter to the Governor Satya Pal Malik, asking him to release journalist Aasif Sultan.

Aasif was arrested by police on August 27 last year and not released since then. CPJ has also demanded dropping all legal proceedings against the arrested journalist.

The letter has been written by Steven Butler, Asia programme cordinator Committee of CPJ to governor.
