SHIMLA, Jan. 7 -- The 24-hour-long ban on the entry of heavy commercial vehicles imposed by the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA), starting from 11 pm on Friday, led to severe traffic congestion on the Jaipur-New Delhi carriageway near the Kherki Daula toll plaza.

The ban was imposed to check the growing environmental pollution in the city. However, with most truck drivers being unaware of the order, they had no other option but to make a U-turn and head towards their respective destinations via alternative routes. This led to traffic congestion along the toll plaza, said the police.
