Sri Lanka, Jan. 5 -- President Maithripala Sirisena stated that from now on, no one cannot edit or translate the Thripitaka without the permission of the government.

The President made this statement at the ceremony held today at the historic Aluviharaya in Matale to officially declare the Thripitaka as a national heritage.

The President reminded that from now on, the Thripitaka can only be translated and edited by a panel of sufficient experts.

The Chief Prelates of the three chapters and more than 1,500 members of the Maha Sanga were present at the ceremony.

The Thripitaka contains the preaching of the Lord Buddha, and is in three volumes as Suthra, Vinaya and Abhidharma.
