Jammu, May 8 -- Former Chief Minister and president of the National Conference Dr. Farooq Abdullah is optimistic that the maiden assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be held after completion of this year's Amarnath Yatra.

Interacting with media persons during the election campaign, the veteran politician predicted that assembly elections would be held just after the completion of the Amarnath Yatra.

"I am 100 percent sure that the much awaited assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir would be held after the Yatra", he said and mentioned that the Supreme Court has asked the government to conduct assembly elections in J&K before September 30.

This year's annual Amarnath Yatra will begin from June 29.
