Dar es Salaam, May 2 -- DODOMA: Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Hussein Bashe, has tabled a budget proposal of 1.248tri/- for the 2024/25 financial year pending approval by parliamentarians.

He stated that his plan prioritizes food security in the country.

Tabling the proposal to lawmakers in Dodoma on Thursday, Mr. Bashe noted that in the 2022/23 financial year, the country met its food needs for the agricultural season.

In the 2023/24 period, he added, the Ministry managed to secure a total of 16.4 million tonnes, with an additional 4 million tonnes recorded as surplus.

Regarding these figures, he stated that the country is 124 percent self-sufficient.
