Sri Lanka, March 4 -- The Police Department has planned to open 250 rehabilitation centers this month with the aim of simultaneously rehabilitating 10,000 drug addicts.

Under this programme, which is planned to be implemented with the support of the Maha Sangha and Catholic, Islamic and Hindu priests, centres will be established to house 50 persons addicted to narcotic drugs at a centre.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon speaking to journalists in Kandy said that the purpose of the new programme is to help young people, addicted to drugs recover from the addiction through a practical and scientific programme prepared with the support of the Dangerous Drugs Control Board.
