Customs Inspector arrested over palm oil import fraud
Sri Lanka, March 29 -- A Customs Inspector has been arrested by the Special Investigations Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with an investigation into the sale of five containers of palm oil, in the open market, which were banned by the Customs.
This Customs Inspector, 33 is a resident of Nawala Rajagiriya. He was arrested by Criminal Investigation Department officers on March 26.
Investigations have revealed that the palm oil which was imported through a Malaysian company which had not been released by Customs as it was banned had been taken out by providing false
information that it was exempted from the Customs.
