India, May 6 -- BMW Motorrad has introduced its new automated shift assistant (ASA), 'an innovative technical solution' that uses two electromechanical actuators to automate the clutch and gear shifts in the 6-speed transmission. When a rider wants to upshift or downshift, the gearshift lever sensor sends a signal to the transmission control unit (TCU). Additional sensors determine the engine speed (RPM) and clutch position. These values are then transmitted to the TCU, which in conjunction with the engine control unit (ECU) adjusts the gearshifting parameters according to the riding style and mode.
